Tom Bannon's Metal Sculpture

Stardust Reunion (1996)

This piece, Stardust Reunion, was the first piece I put into a show (I started sculpting around 1992).  The show was called Sculpture in the Garden, an annual show put on by the Texas Sculpture Association and held at the State Fair of Texas (where this picture was taken - you can see the Texas flag on the hub of the giant Ferris wheel in the background).  The 1996 show was juried by the Assistant Curator of Contemporary Arts of the Dallas Museum of Art.  There were 52 submissions (mostly from North Texas artists I believe) and 8 selections.  The piece is abstract, yet captured for me the vision of two lovers, long since separated over vast distances of time and space, reunited in a miracle of nature.
