Tom Bannon's Metal Sculpture

Embedded Window (1997)

This piece, Embedded Window, was the piece I won Best of Show with at the Texas Visual Artists Association (TVAA) 50th Anniversary membership show, thus making the cover of the show catalog (as you can see).  All TVAA members were entitled to enter a piece in the show, and I'd estimate at least 120 entries in all media, although paintings certainly predominated.  The pieces were juried by a former Curator of Contempory Arts of the Dallas Museum of Art, who chose the top three pieces.  Embedded Window is an abstract welded steel piece, and its title refers both to the window-like rectangle incorporated into the work, as well as to the idea of made things providing a glimpse of the maker.
